Film Festival News: The 20th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival (January 6-19, 2009)
Founded in 1990 by the former Palm Springs Mayor Sonny Bono, the 20th anniversary of the Palm Springs International Film Festival kicks off this January.
With more than 400 screenings of 200 films from approximately 60 countries around the globe on 15 screens in the city, including a majority of Best Foreign Language Film Oscar contenders, an ongoing commitment to independent film, documentaries, and debuting spectacular cinematic events-- the upcoming festival will run from January 6-19.
Additionally, the following talents will be honored at the upcoming Awards Gala:
* Ron Howard (Director’s Lifetime Achievement Award)
* Clint Eastwood (Career Achievement Award)
* Gus Van Sant (Sonny Bono Visionary Award)
* Dustin Hoffman (Chairman's Award)
* Alexandre Desplat (Frederick Loewe Award for Film Composing)
* Anne Hathaway (Desert Palm Achievement Award – Female)
* Sean Penn (Desert Palm Achievement Award – Male)
* The Cast of Revolutionary Road--including Leonardo DiCaprio & Kate Winslet (Ensemble Performance Award)
* Amy Adams (Spotlight Award)
* Dakota Fanning (Rising Star Award)
* Freida Pinto (Breakthrough Performance Award)
